How to Shrink Crocs? Three Methods That Actually Work!
The secret to shrinking or unshrinking your Crocs is all about heating the Croslite material.
If you want a better fit, the first step is to heat up the Croslite. After that, let them cool down, and they’ll shrink to the perfect size.
I’ve got four simple and easy methods to help you heat them up just right!
Here are they:
Hair-Dryer Method
The hairdryer method is probably the most convenient to shrink your crocs. This method works like a dream and I personally find it quite simple.
Here’s what you need to do in this method:
- Grab your Crocs and a blow dryer. (Try to be in a well-ventilated area)
- Turn your blow dryer to high heat and aim it at your Crocs. Focus on one shoe at a time, moving the dryer around to heat evenly.
- Keeping heating each Croc for about 7-10 minutes. Keep an eye on them, as they will start to heat up and soften.
- Once heated up, let the Crocs cool down.
- After that, slip them on. If they’re still too big, repeat the process for a couple more minutes.
- Don’t overdo it—too much heat could warp the shape.
Once done, try on and enjoy your new fit.

Tumble Dryer Method
No hair dryer? No problem! You can use a tumble dryer instead.
Some people prefer this method over the hair dryer, but it’s really about what’s convenient for you. I find the hair dryer easy, but others like the dryer method—both work fine.
Before you start, here’s what you need:
- Towels (several)
- Mesh laundry bag
Steps:
- First off, take out any Jibbitz to avoid wrecking them.
- Next, pop your Crocs in a mesh laundry bag. Then, throw in a couple of dry towels for extra padding. (I like to cradle the Crocs in a towel so they don’t slam into the sides of the dryer.)
- Set the dryer to medium heat and start the process.
- Now, check the size every 5 minutes. My Crocs took about 15 minutes to shrink just right, but your time might be different. So it’s best to keep checking, especially if you’re trying to shrink them by a full size!
And that’s it. You’ve got a new fit for your Crocs.

Sunlight Method
If you can’t constantly check on your Crocs—or if you don’t have a hair dryer or tumble dryer handy—there’s an easier yet more time-consuming method for shrinking them.
Yep, I’m talking about using sunlight! Here’s how you can do it:
- Start by wrapping your Crocs in a muslin cloth. Secure the bag with rubber bands or thread—whatever you have lying around. This cloth will help keep them from drying out too much in the sun.
- Next, give the cloth a light spray of water—two sprays should do the trick.
- Now, just place them in direct sunlight for about four to five hours. The heat and moisture will work their magic on the Croslite foam.
- Once the time’s up, bring them back inside and let them cool in a well-ventilated spot. After they’ve cooled down, check the fit.
This method is probably the gentlest way to shrink your Crocs, even if it takes a bit longer. And the best part is that it works for all types of Crocs!
Oven Method
For regular Croslite Crocs, you can go with the oven method but be careful—not all Crocs types can handle this!
- Set your oven to 75°C and let the Crocs “cook” for 5 minutes.
- Once the time is up, turn off the oven and take the Crocs out.
- Let it cool down and then try it on.
- If it doesn’t fit well, repeat the process.
Are Any of My Methods Going to Ruin the Texture?
Not really! My methods won’t ruin the texture or appearance of your Crocs. If done correctly, it will help you find the exact size you’re looking for.
So, go slowly and pay close attention to the steps.
Just keep in mind: don’t expose them to excess heat. Excessive heat can lead to melting, discoloration, or structural damage.
If you’re hesitant about the other methods, the sunlight method is the safest way to make your Crocs feel snug and comfy!
What If Your Crocs Shrink Too Much?
No worries! You can easily fix that by using any of the heating methods mentioned above—whether it’s a hair dryer, tumble dryer, oven, or sunlight.
However, this time, instead of just letting them cool down, you’ll want to wear them with three pairs of socks on when they’re warmed up.
Here’s how it’s done:
- Warm up your Crocs.
- Put on 3 pairs of socks.
- Slide into your freshly warmed Crocs.
- Walk around for about 5 to 10 minutes while they cool down. This will help them adjust to your feet and find their new size.
Once you’ve walked around, take off the socks and enjoy your perfectly sized Crocs!
Final Words
So, what did we learn today?
Croslite is a pretty amazing material—it can shrink or unshrink depending on how you heat it up. If you heat them and let them sit, they’ll shrink. But if you heat them up and wear them, they’ll stretch out to fit your feet.
However, it’s not as easy as it sounds! Heating your Crocs has to be done just right to avoid damaging them or losing their texture. The methods I’ve shared are some of the safest and easiest ways to get them to fit your needs.
That said, don’t forget to be careful with each step! Take your time, and only then can you enjoy your new fit.
Otherwise, you might find yourself coming back to blame me! Be safe when attempting these methods.
