Are UGG Shoes Waterproof? Throughly Explained

Big, puffy, and super cozy—UGG shoes seem like the perfect choice for winter. But what about the rainy season? Can they help stop water? That’s a question many people have.

So, today, let’s go over this and answer the big question: Are UGGs waterproof or not?

If you’re curious about this FAQ, make sure to read till the end, as there’s a lot you need to know.

Are UGGs Really Waterproof?

Well, it depends on the model you have.

If your UGG shoes come with waterproof features like waterproof leather, seam-sealed construction, or GORE-TEX technology, then yes, they will be waterproof and ready to handle some water.

And other than these specific models, UGGs aren’t waterproof at all. Most models are made from suede and sheepskin, which can absorb water and get wet.

So, yes! UGG does have waterproof models, but that doesn’t mean all of their models are waterproof.

Are My UGG Shoes Waterproof?

If you’re unsure whether your model is waterproof or has waterproofing features, don’t worry—just check your shoe box or look up your shoe’s features on the official website.

If you find these features on your specific model, you’re good to go out in rainy weather. If not, you might want to stay indoors.

How Do UGG Shoes Handle Water?

Traditional UGG shoes don’t handle water well. If you spill something on them or go out in light rain, the suede can start to stain.

Personally, I had an experience where I thought my classic UGGs were weatherproof and could handle some water. I went outside in the rain, and within the first five minutes, my feet were soaked. The outsole did a good job of keeping water from entering from below, but water got in from above, soaking my feet and leaving the shoes with plenty of stains.

So, if you have a pair of classic UGGs, avoid wearing them in the rain or stepping in deep puddles.

Can Water Damage UGGs Shoes?

For once or twice, it may not be a big deal, but repeated exposure to water can leave marks or stains on your shoes.

Repeated usage can also loosen the adhesives and cause the outsole to separate.

And if your shoes are made of suede, too much water can easily damage the material and misshape the whole shoe, which can make them look ugly.

However, if your shoes have waterproof features, then there’s no need to worry—just relax and enjoy.

What If They Get Wet?

If your UGG shoes got wet, start by placing them in a warm, dry, and shady spot. Give them a few hours to dry.

Once they’ve dried and regained their shape, apply a good leather or suede conditioner to bring back their shine and prepare them for their next wear.

How To Make Your UGG Shoes Waterproof?

If your UGG shoes don’t have any waterproof features, you’ll probably need a waterproof spray.

Get yourself a good waterproofing spray to keep them protected and well-maintained.

There are plenty of options on the market, but the one I’m using works great on different materials. I’ve linked the one I use here.

How To Apply Waterproofing Spray?

It’s simple.

First, wipe your boots with a towel or cloth to remove any dirt or marks.

Next, spray the boots, making sure to cover the seams and stitching. This helps stop water from getting in through weak spots.

It’s a good idea to test the spray on a small, hidden part of the boots first to make sure it doesn’t cause any discoloration or damage.

After spraying, let the boots dry overnight, and they’ll be ready for the rain.

Final Takeaways

UGG does offer some great waterproof shoes, like the Shasta Boot Mid, Biltmore Hiker, Adirondack Meridian, and UGG Lug Chukka.

You can pick any of these or simply search “waterproof” in the official website’s search bar. You’ll find plenty of options for hiking, casual, formal, and weather-resistant shoes to choose from.

But if you already have a pair that doesn’t come with waterproof features, just apply a good waterproof spray, and they’ll be ready to handle some water.
