Are Blundstone Shoes Really Waterproof? Ultimate FAQ Explained!

are blundstone water proof

Blundstone shoes are often praised as the best boots for all conditions. But when it comes to rainy days or splashes of water, many people wonder if they can really handle it.

In today’s discussion, we’ll dive into this topic and see if Blundstones can truly keep your feet dry in wet conditions. So stay tuned if you’re curious about this frequently asked question!

Are Blundstone Shoes Waterproof?

Yes! But not all Blundstone models are waterproof. Only two of their series are designed to keep water out effectively. Those include:

  • Gumboot series
  • Thermal series.

Their Gumboot series is made from nitrile and PVC. And if you know both, PVC and nitrile have solid waterproof properties. Along with that, these boots are also resistant to oil and grease. On the other hand, the Thermal Blundstones feature premium waterproof leather, which actually works to keep your feet dry and warm.

Aside from these two series, Blundstone offers water-resistant shoes that aren’t fully waterproof but can handle light rain and wet conditions.

From personal experience, water-resistant Blunnies do a great job of keeping your feet dry in damp weather and can be worn throughout the year. (They’re more breathable and stylish.)

Are Vegan Blundstones Waterproof?

Nope! Vegan Blundstones are not fully waterproof, but they are water-resistant. The vegan models are made from a synthetic material that can repel light rain and splashes.

However, they’re not designed to handle heavy rain or deep puddles as effectively as the leather or waterproof models.

And if you want to improve their water resistance, you can apply a waterproofing spray suitable for synthetic materials.

How Do They Handle Water?

Regular Blundstones handle water splashes with ease. Light rain or snow won’t seep into your shoes unless you’re stepping into deep snow or puddles.

I’ve worn non-thermal, water-resistant Blundstones for 2 years and never had wet feet. As long as you keep the leather clean and conditioned, they’ll stay dry—unless you frequently walk through deep puddles.

As for their waterproof models, they’re excellent for rains, snow, slush, and cold weather, keeping your feet dry and warm.

Overall, Blundstone shoes are great at handling water, snow, and storms.

Can Blundstone Boots Get Wet From Inside?

Obviously! No boots are completely waterproof—there’s always that giant hole at the top where your foot goes in! If water goes in from there, the boots will get wet.

So if you submerge your Blundstones in deep puddles, they could eventually get wet inside. This is true for all models.

However, on the outside, Blundstones, especially their waterproof series, are tough to get wet. They’re designed to resist water, so they can handle most wet conditions without much trouble.

What If Your Blundstones Get All Wet?

No worries! Just let your boots dry in a cool, shady place for a day or so. They’ll dry on their own and regain their shape.

Once they’re dry and back to normal, apply a good leather conditioner and some waterproofing spray to get them ready for the next time you wear them.

Can Water Ruin Blundstones?

Water won’t ruin Blundstones—they’re made to resist stains and water damage, thanks to their oil-tanned leather. However, it’s still important to protect them with a waterproof spray or leather conditioner. If you don’t take care of them, they might lose their water-resistant and waterproof properties, leading to stains and dirt marks. In worst-case scenarios, they can develop cracks.

So, while they’re tough against water, good care is essential to keep them in good shape.

How To Make Blundstone Waterproof?

If you own Blundstone’s classic or original boots and are thinking about waterproofing them, you’re in luck!

All you need is a good waterproofing spray to keep them waterproof and well-maintained.

I recommend using the official Blundstone waterproof spray and wax, but if that’s not available, there are plenty of great alternatives. I’ve linked the one I use here

How To Apply Waterproofing Spray?

To apply, first start by cleaning your boots with a towel or cloth to remove all dirt and marks. Then, spray the entire surface of the boots, including the seams and stitching, to prevent water from getting in through any weak points.

It’s also a good idea to test the spray on a small, hidden area of the boots first to ensure it doesn’t cause any discoloration or damage.

Once you’ve applied the spray, let the boots dry overnight, and they’ll be ready for rainy weather.

Final Takeaway

Blundstone boots are tough to get wet because they’re made from thicker, more water-resistant materials that block water better than many other brands.

If you’re in a place that frequently sees rain and you need to be out and about, a good pair of Blunnies is a smart choice—they’re excellent at resisting water.

And if you need something even more waterproof, try their waterproof models. While they might not be the most breathable, they’ll keep your feet dry even in the heaviest snow and storms.

That’s all for today. Thanks for reading.
