Puma 180 Review: Should You Cop a Pair or Nah?

Puma-180 Review

Another day, another chunky sneaker—this time from Puma.

In the last couple of days, I’ve noticed more and more people on Reddit talking about Puma 180 sneakers and asking if they’re worth buying.

Being a sneaker enthusiast, I decided to see for myself. So, I got a pair of Puma-180 Summer Time and checked them out on the basis of their design, material, comfort, fitting, and price

Here’s what I think about them.

Quick Review Table of Puma 180

Before I dive into my detailed review of the Puma 180, here’s a quick summary for my viewers who are always in a hurry but mysteriously have nothing better to do.

Puma 180
Feature
  • Style: Chunky 90’s skate sneaker—great for showing off.
  • Comfort: Meh!!! Fun to walk in at first, but turns awful later.
  • Skating: Decent, but not for pros.
  • Running: Avoid if you love your feet.
  • Durability: Built to last longer than your relationships.

Now, the time for having fun is over. Let’s hit the full review of Puma 180 without wasting a second.

Design

Puma 180s are low-top sneakers.

Design-wise, they draw inspiration from early ’90s skate sneakers, featuring a chunky, oversized look. The sneakers have a lace-up front and a paneled upper, which give them their distinctive style.

Their chunkiness comes from the oversized padding on all sides, especially the tongue, collar, and midsole. Additionally, they feature bold, brightly colored uppers that are great for styling.

Overall, it’s design is presentable, elegant, and clean for everyday styling. I will give them a solid 9 out of 10 for their design.

Materials

Materials are not anything new, but they do their jobs well and effectively.

The upper part of the shoe uses a mix of leather, mesh, and synthetic materials. The leather, which is on the Puma Formstrip along the sides, looks really sharp. The mesh covers most of the upper part, which is great for keeping your feet cool. The synthetic materials are on the bottom eyelets and side panels, adding extra durability and structure where it’s needed.

The tongue and laces are made from a nice, soft textile that feels really plush. The midsole is made from IMEVA (Injection-Molded EVA). It’s a nice material for cushioning but lacks top-tier shock absorption for bigger jumps during skating.

The outsole is rubber and has a textured finish for good grip. It might not be the best for wet conditions, but it holds up well on most surfaces.

And finally, inside, the shoe has a smooth textile lining that feels nice against your skin. The insole is made from EVA foam. It’s not super cushioned, but you can always swap it out for a comfier one if you need more cushioning.

For materials, I would rate it 7 out of 10.

Comfort

In terms of comfort, this sneaker is average. It’s not bad, but it’s not the best either. I’ve worn a lot of sneakers recently, and this one didn’t impress me in here.

First, it doesn’t have any special technology from Puma. There’s no technology to improve breathability or make it better for running or sports like we see in the Puma RS-X.

Next, the cushioning on the insole is quite minimal and thinner compared to models like the Puma Mirage or Puma Suede XL. While the cushioning on the collars and tongue is good, the lack of cushioning on the insole can make your feet hurt if worn for a long time.

The midsole is very thick, which adds weight that you can feel when walking. The same goes for skating; I would say the weight needs to be less.

For walking, this sneaker is fine for normal walks but not for long ones. It’s more suitable for styling or occasions where you’ll mostly be sitting or just standing, like at a café, a friend’s gathering, or strolling in a mall.

So, in the comfort section, I would give this shoe a rating of 6.5 out of 10.

Size and Fitting

Puma 180 goes true-to-size (TTS).

These are fairly over-sized sneakers, but they fit well. I’ve seen many chunky sneakers that sometimes need a half size down for narrow feet, but here, there’s no need for that.

The shoe gives you a nice and tight fit with some extra room in the toe box. So, my recommendation is to pick your own size.

Regarding sizing, I will give it a 10 by 10.

Prices

These sneakers cost about $80, and you can get them for even less during sales.

They come in various styles like Summer Time, Luxe Sport, Puma 180 Pop, and CORDUROY, among others. The price can vary slightly with different models.

However, most of them are priced under $100. For the price, I would give it a 9 out of 10.

Final Words: Should You Buy Them?

If you’re a guy who loves collecting sneakers or just wants a stylish pair for casual walks and matching outfits, the Puma 180 is a great choice. These shoes can also work for skating—not the best option, but they’ll do if you don’t have other shoes.

However, if you’re looking for running or jogging shoes, the Puma 180 isn’t for you. They lack the support and technology needed for running, and you could hurt your feet. So, think twice before buying them for sports activities.

This sneaker model has a few FAQs surrounding it. Let’s see them as well.

FAQs

Are Puma 180 true-to-size?

Yes, the Puma 180 does fit true to size. They may appear to be a chunky pair of sneakers, leading you to believe you should go half a size down, but there is no need to do so; they fit perfectly for their size.

The Puma-180 sneakers offer a versatile range that includes both unisex and non-unisex options. You can find both gender specific and unisex sneakers in Puma stores.
